LaQuisha Hall, Mrs. Essence Publishes new book and challenges Body Image Stereotypes!

Laquisha Hall, Mrs. Essence 2013, is no stranger to challenging stereotypes.  The beauty queen has had to fight naysayers who have said that she is, "too skinny."  An educator in the Baltimore Public School System, Laquisha decided to do something for young girls who have had to deal with being told they are too skinny, or ridiculed for having eating disorders they don't have.

"My issue has always been that I cannot gain weight," says Laquisha.  "I've tried protein shakes, eating ridiculous amounts of calories, and I've just never been able to gain the weight. When some of my students started coming to me about the same issue, I decided to write a book for them."

Positively Bodyful is a Laquisha's new book.  According to the book description:
Are you comparing yourself to others or putting yourself down? If so, you are not alone. As a young lady, you are going through a lot of changes in your body. And, as your body changes, so does your image of yourself. It is not always easy to like every part of your looks, but when you get stuck on the negatives it can really bring down your self-esteem. Written by a woman who was teased for being "skinny" throughout her life, this journal will encourage you to use your creativity to keep your mind positive. Prepare yourself to step into your Queendom!
The book is currently available wherever books are sold, and can be purchased online at Amazon.com: http://www.amazon.com/Positively-Bodyful-Queendom-T-E/dp/1484850742/ref=sr_1_1?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1376796243&sr=1-1

Tara Bigbie Crowned Ms. Essence 2013-2014

On July 20, 2013 in Crystal City, Virginia, Tara Bigbie, Ms. Alabama Essence 2013 captured the title of Ms. Essence 2013! This is Tara’s first national title and her first time competing in the Essence system.

Listen to internet radio with Pageant Insider News on BlogTalkRadio
Tara began her career in the Air Force where she enlisted in 2002. During her active duty career, she served in Operation Iraqi Freedom and Operation Enduring Freedom. While she never deployed, her role as an All Source Intelligence Analyst was detrimental to the war fighter down range.  In 2006, she began serving at the 117th Intelligence Squadron Air National Guard base out of Birmingham Alabama as an Imagery Analyst.  This career change opened numerous opportunities for her in the Department of Defense as a contractor. Tara separated from the Air Force in 2012 and currently works as a Geospatial Analyst for Mission Essential. “I have the best job ever! I am in the business of statistical and predictive analysis. My job saves lives through the merging of statistical data and geographical information to predict where the bad guys are going to be”.  Tara is continuing her education through ITT Tech with a degree in Business focusing in Program Management. She hopes her military background and professional career will allow her to eventually become an Ambassador to the United Nations.

Tara started in pageantry at the age of 15 with the Miss Teen United States pageant system. While she did not place at her state pageant, she caught the “pageant bug” and began to work towards winning a title. Tara attended Bradshaw High School in Florence Alabama where she was recognized as an NCA cheerleader, on the track team, the drama team, and recognized in Who’s Who Amongst America’s High school students. She graduated with honors receiving an academic scholarship. After high school, she attended the University of Alabama where she was majoring in Computer Information Systems. After 9/11, she got the urge to enlist in the Air Force and put her degree on hold to serve her country.   During the Essence Pageant in 2013, Tara’s focus remained on her core values she gained from the Air Force; Integrity First, Service before Self, and excellence in all you do. These values were key to her success as she won best in fitness, best interview, and best evening gown, and of course the Ms. Essence national title.
Tara’s platform is mentoring young mothers who are survivors of domestic violence. As a survivor herself, her goal is to reach out to the community and help young mothers get their life back on track. She wants these women to know that it is never too late to start college, begin a career, or help others cope. Tara began with this platform in 2007, when she was an elected county official to the Parents Committee at Handy Head Start in Florence Alabama.
