Tara
began her career in the Air Force where she enlisted in 2002. During
her active duty career, she served in Operation Iraqi Freedom and
Operation Enduring Freedom. While she never deployed, her role as an All
Source Intelligence Analyst was detrimental to the war fighter down
range. In 2006, she began serving at the 117th Intelligence Squadron Air National Guard base out of Birmingham Alabama as an Imagery Analyst. This
career change opened numerous opportunities for her in the Department
of Defense as a contractor. Tara separated from the Air Force in 2012
and currently works as a Geospatial Analyst for Mission Essential. “I
have the best job ever! I am in the business of statistical and
predictive analysis. My job saves lives through the merging of
statistical data and geographical information to predict where the bad
guys are going to be”. Tara is continuing her education
through ITT Tech with a degree in Business focusing in Program
Management. She hopes her military background and professional career
will allow her to eventually become an Ambassador to the United Nations.
Tara
started in pageantry at the age of 15 with the Miss Teen United States
pageant system. While she did not place at her state pageant, she caught
the “pageant bug” and began to work towards winning a title. Tara
attended Bradshaw High School in Florence Alabama where she was
recognized as an NCA cheerleader, on the track team, the drama team, and
recognized in Who’s Who Amongst America’s High school students. She
graduated with honors receiving an academic scholarship. After high
school, she attended the University of Alabama where she was majoring in
Computer Information Systems. After 9/11, she got the urge to enlist in
the Air Force and put her degree on hold to serve her country. During
the Essence Pageant in 2013, Tara’s focus remained on her core values
she gained from the Air Force; Integrity First, Service before Self, and
excellence in all you do. These values were key to her success as she
won best in fitness, best interview, and best evening gown, and of
course the Ms. Essence national title.
Tara’s
platform is mentoring young mothers who are survivors of domestic
violence. As a survivor herself, her goal is to reach out to the
community and help young mothers get their life back on track. She wants
these women to know that it is never too late to start college, begin a
career, or help others cope. Tara began with this platform in 2007,
when she was an elected county official to the Parents Committee at
Handy Head Start in Florence Alabama.
